So there isn’t too many dull moments on our trips usually. The following screen shots are of the news alerts we received the night of the earth quake. We had just gotten into a deep sleep and everyone of our devices started to alarm. There was an earth quake and possible Tsunami warning. Being new to the area we were alert but not sure what to do. Out of the now silence, we saw numerous cars and trucks headed for the water. ( look outs ?) Then we saw campers pulling out of the state park…a bit unnerving …I went outside (raining, dark enough, and 40 degree something) in my tee shirt and saw the owner of the camp coming towards me. She said they are monitoring the wave action and would let us know if it became serious. The quake was a few hundred miles south and only Kodiak Island was evacuating. So back to bed 😳 …no sleep present here, so I finished my book I was reading. All ended well….. Ended the beautiful day at the VFW Where Todd was cooking burgers.

Caught up on the photos for now . Hopefully I will be able to post more often and give a few more details. Star link doesn’t work here consistently and my cell works fabulous …and then it doesn’t…on the fence about getting Star Link.
Just a note. After leaving the Denali Hwy, and back on the S Parks Hwy, I did see Denali. While in the Park we did not. Only 30% do. We did see Denali last time we were here. This time it was a drive by view with no pictures unfortunately. Why only a drive by you ask…well…before entering the Denali Hwy our fuel tank was on a full half and Bob was driving due to my Covid. We drove by the one fuel pump and I said, “ turn around what are you doing.” He said, “ there is fuel in Cantwell.” I said, “ I like to be sure, taking no chances, so turn around please.” Bob said, “ we have 9 gallons in the trunk we will be fine.” I said, “ no turn around please. “ Did he? No of course not. His name on his boat was “Took A Chance”, Imagine that! So we drive into Cantwell, on “E”, I may add, and the fuel pumps have yellow tape on them. Oh gee…really…I told you never to pass a fuel pump. A while later in total silence Bob says, “and how far was the next fuel station? “ I said, “ it was 88 miles.” Getting 8mpg and the fuel needle is now past the empty line. I next say, “you might as well pull over in a nice spot while you have the chance because we are going to need every drop of that 9 gallons you say we have.“. So this is why I have no pictures of Denali. We feared using the extra fuel to go into the look out for the picture. So sad…LIFE WITH BOB! 😂
Although this was a beautiful spot, this is where I came down with Covid AGAIN. OMG my fifth time. I simply can not handle this virus. We were very much in the boon-docks so no medical help was available. The first day of my infection it rained, so sleeping all day was a good thing. |
