February 16...the caravan lines up in order and we take off for Tecate to cross the boarder. We walked across the boarder to pay for and validate our FMM's in Immigration. After we crossed into Tecate, Mexico we drove down Highway 3 and through the scenic Guadalupe Valley. An old Russian community and many vineyards covered the beautiful valley. |
Before Ensenada we drove passed many wineries. Many had newly established tasting rooms and restaurants built on the land.
Heading down Highway 1 south of Ensenada we traveled through several agriculture areas; which San Quintin was part of. I think the excavating was the highway preparation...maybe...
After passing El Rosario we entered the central desert area. This was one of the most scenic regions of the Baja; with large Cardon Cactus and tall skinny Cirio trees that are nicknames Bojums. The desert flowers were just starting to blossom at this time. About two weeks after these pictures, we passed through this area again and the desert was filled with a stunning array of every color flower. This was a very rare spectacle And It was simply breath taking!

...below is the bark of this tree... Above is a close up view of the tall skinny Cirio tree pictured on the right. Wayne has a flat on the trailer and doesn't know it. It is a good this we have our two way radios so we can communicate this. | Occasionally the road was washed out. So you just drive around it. |
