On arrival we were told to get settled in our tents and go to the Boma (gathering area) at 3:00 for our first game safari.

On the other side of the Boma there was a raised platform that made getting into the rather high Land Rovers a little easier. It was another beautiful day in South Africa.

Portrait please!

Pictures of elephants do not relay the size of these creatures when they are in the woods and very near your land rover.

The following pictures are around the grounds at both lodges in Zulu Nyala.  There were extensive grounds including actual rooms, tents,  two pools, 3 eating facilities and many views of the wild.  The gardens went on forever.  Each sleeping room had an entrance path with many various plants and flowers planted.

These Yellow Weavers, were busy each day weaving the hanging nests.  The circle in the picture below is how they begin their nest.  After the wind storm some of them should think about attaching the nest to the trees a little tighter.  A few fell to the ground.

Peeking through the brush on the left is a goofy Wart hog.  Named for the warts on their face.  Two by the eyes for females and 4 total warts for the males; two warts by the eyes and two by the jaw. They look cuter in the "Lion King"

After Safari it's the 5 o'clock happy hour ritual before dinner at 7. (pictured above)
This Amarula is Amazing.  It comes from the Marulo tree. Reece is explaining this in the picture to the right.  The tree looks dead but it is not.

Our trip started at the GRR international airport Tuesday August 21, 2018.  We landed in Johannesburg South Africa in late afternoon.  We were greeted by Zulu Nyala's representatives and were taken to the Country Manor where we attended a fine dinner and wine that was waiting for us.  The Country Manor is very interesting and we are anticipating seeing it in the day light.  It was a very long Tuesday and it's difficult to believe that Wednesday is over too!

Thursday August 23,2018 Soweto Shova all girl school

Picture

Left: We saw "sheds" people put up because they can not afford housing.  There is no water or sanitation in these small, but numerous areas.
Below: We were greeted by many girls at the school.  They sang to us and it was enough to bring tears to your eyes.  Simply beautiful!  Many hugs were exchanged.  It is wonderful to see what our financial support can do in this area that desperately needs it.  These local schools are supported by Christ Memorial Church, RCA, and Bethany Christian Services International.

Art work and artists fill the main street of this small Township of Soweto. This street has the home of Nelson Mandela and Desmond TuTu one block apart.  Both received the Nobel Peace Award.

Visit to the Lion Safari Park

Picture

It was lunch time for the lions.  They prefer to eat a leaner horse meat to beef that has more fat content.

And of coarse the local giraffe likes to see if we have any bread...we were able to do a few special things the general public missed out in.

What would a Safari Park be with out a personal encounter with the baby lions.

This baby on the left was 4 months old, second & 3rd one 5 months old and the one in back was 6 months old.  Baby # two was getting a little edgy...and scared me...they are bristly and kinda rough.  Not fuzzy and cute like they appear.   Next stop, Zulu Nyala tomorrow by way of King Air Flight;  which is one hour.

Ready for take off and everyone is very tired...after we were in the air for several minutes the co-pilot said we were going to circle back to the airport because of an emergency GPS malfunction in the control panel.  The brand new silver jet below is what we boarded NEXT, after about a 45 minute delay.

    About  Us

After my husbands widow maker heart attack in 2004, the doctor said just relax and enjoy life for a while. So it happened: the 43' NewMar Mountain Aire coach was purchased and the house sold....eventually. Relaxing? Not always! We are truly blessed to spend this time together... and with friends.

    Up Date:

September 2015 now traveling with Ford F350diesel dually and Host Mammoth Truck Camper.
