Chicken Alaska
Bill and Wendy stayed in Chicken and we went on to Tok to see if we could find parts for our broken sewer.
After power washing and looking everywhere for parts we ended up at the very nice boat ramp, where we dry camped for the night. We arrived just in time for cocktail hour. There was about 6 rigs there and every one sat around and had great conversation.
In the morning we had to evaluate the tape and temporary fixit job. Decision was to go to Anchorage for parts. We found Bill and Wendy around noon and headed down the Glenn HWY west. Stopped at Victory Bible camp for the night. This camp has many Michigan ties. We were here in 2010. Moose were swimming in the pond on the far shore when we arrived. And in the morning another cow and her twins were right next to our RV. So ugly, they are cute.
After a busy day these fruit tarts looked pretty good. But, we will wait to connect with the others before we buy it. Nummy!
Bill and Wendy didn’t want to stay in Wasilla for the Farmers Market and left. We found the business to be annoying also, so we kept on trucking. Ending up at the Boat Ramp in Talkeetna where we had stayed before with our Big Rig. We had heard the contrary, and there was no camping there. Found a cute spot by the river and stayed two nights. So peaceful and special. Loved it there. The mosquitoes were heavy but not in the sun and with the coils going. Very nice two days!!!
Leaving very early this morning to catch the sun and a moose! On the way to Denali. Todd (who lives in Anchor Point) says we need to continue to follow the weather and stay away from him. He said it has been a terrible spring and the trees just got their leaves about a week and a half ago. Very rainy and cold still.
Our travel companions have gone their own way. We will meet July 7 in Anchor point. They like plans with details. We like plans with serendipitous moments. After traveling for 21 years we have found that we remember the feelings and experiences we have had and not the details that were planned… the numerous books we have read in detail years ago and plans we made are good. Next chapter has been evolving….quite nicely!
Denali National Park and Preserve
Once in the park we rode the big green bus in to the park as far and we could go….so very pretty and untouched.
Time for dinner and find a home tonight.
We stopped at the 49th State Brewery. I would highly recommend this place. The food is excellent and a wide variety. I had Parmesan crusted halibut and fried cauliflower. Super good. Outdoor or indoor all was very special. Another good time! So nice!
